Flambards Theme Park

The West of Cornwall is jam packed with great things to do. A lot of people choose a base like St Ives, which allows you to reach all of the best visitor attractions in the area. If you have booked a luxury self catering apartment in St Ives for your holiday then you are going to be fantastically well served in terms of things to do in your immediate location.

If you are heading to Cornwall with the kids’ then visitor attraction that you do not want to miss is Flambards. Cornwall’s answer to Alton Towers, Flambards is understandably a lot smaller than its counterpart, but there is no shortage of fun thrills and excitement to be had. Being on a smaller scale doesn’t do Flambards any harm at all, and as anyone who has visited Alton Towers would testify, it can be very difficult to see everything you want to see at some of the biggest theme parks. Flambards is thankfully manageable, and you will be able to do everything you want with just enough time to spare to have a quick bite to eat whilst you are there!
The theme park may not be big but there are certainly some big rides to enjoy in the park. One of the best is certainly the Hornet Rollercoaster – a thrilling all action coaster which reaches high speeds and imparts plenty of G force – enough to leave you with a permanent grim plastered all over your face! It really is a great ride, and it is one of the main reasons for visiting Flambards. The Canyon River Log flume is also great fun for all the family, although you have to keep an eye out for the pirate who will do all he can to get you as wet as possible!

Another great thing about Flambards is that it can be as educational as it is fun. The Britain in the Blitz section of the theme park is fascinating and offers a real insight into Britain at this period in time. Kids really do find it interesting because it has been so well done.

Flambards is also brilliantly located no matter where you are in the West of the county. It is just on the outskirts of Helston, so if you have managed to find a luxury boutique apartment in St Ives, you will only be twenty five minutes away by car which makes it highly accessible.

Flambards may not be the most spectacular theme park you have ever been to, but if you are looking for a nice day out with the family it will suit your families’ needs perfectly. It is set in beautiful surroundings, and won’t cost you the earth to visit. It is known to be the largest theme park in the West Country, so it really is worth a visit if you are going for a holiday in St Ives.

Day trips to Falmouth when holidaying in Cornwall

Falmouth is one of the most interesting places you can visit when staying in Cornwall on holiday. Of course, a lot of people choose not to stay in the seaside town when they are holidaying in Cornwall, but it is a great place to visit from your base.

Falmouth has plenty for all the family. First of all, anyone visiting Cornwall will want to head to Falmouth to visit the Maritime Museum, which has been operational for some years now. It is a wonderful museum and visitor centre, and certainly one that you can entertain the kids in for some time. You will also find that Falmouth is the perfect seaside town. There is a lovely shopping street in typical Cornish town style, with plenty of interesting shops, but not so much that you can’t see it all within an hour or two. As well as the lovely town centre, you should also take the time to take in Pendennis Castle, a wonderful old Castle originally designed to ward off attacks from the sea. These days you can have a look around the castle, and of course take advantage of the delightful walks around the headland point. The beaches in Falmouth are also superb for children and the whole family. They are fairly safe for swimming and the main beach, Gyllyngvase has lifeguards throughout the summer. Continue reading

Out and about in Cornwall on your holidays

If you are heading down to Cornwall for your family holiday this year, you will be delighted to hear that there are some wonderful places to visit in this beautiful county. A word of warning though – it is widely agreed that the more interesting and attractive places to visit in Cornwall are towards the west of the county, so if you had planned to position yourself near to the Eden Project, bear in mind that you may have a significant drive to get to see anything else that is particularly interesting during your holiday. Great places to visit on holiday in Cornwall

When you choose to holiday in Cornwall it really can be quite difficult to decide which part of the county to stay in. This is because it is a surprisingly large county, and it is not always easy or quick to get to different parts of the county either. You will find that if you are staying in North Cornwall, getting down to Lands End can be quite an arduous journey. Likewise, if you stay in Lands End or somewhere which is regarded as being ‘down west’, you will find that it is quite a drive to get yourself back to the Eden Project which is quite northern in terms of the counties geographic positioning.

This is why it is important to find somewhere which acts as a great base, but at the same time you will no doubt want that base to be an attractive place to stay as well. This is why St Ives is such a good starting point for a holiday in Cornwall. St Ives in itself is a beautiful part of the county, but on top of that it is in a great situation for getting about the county. You are only about forty five minutes away from the Eden Project, twenty minutes away from Lands End and forty minutes away from Falmouth, which lies on the South Coast, and of course, all of the well known resorts on the North coast are all within easy reach. Restaurants in St Ives

If you are thinking about going on holiday in the UK this year then St Ives should be top of your list. St Ives has always been a hugely popular place to visit, but in recent years there have been so many reasons why you should go there for a holiday. Obviously when the Tate Gallery opened its doors for the first time St Ives changed in terms of the sorts of people who wanted to visit the areas. St Ives has always had a great reputation for people interested in arts but the Tate gallery brought St Ives to the attention of the British public, and the town has not looked back.

One way in which St Ives has improved is in its restaurants. Again, there was never a problem with the available restaurants in St Ives in the past, but recent years have seen some fabulous additions to what was already an excellent list. Special attention has to go to the Wonderful Loft Restaurant, which might be familiar with people who once knew the Pig and Fish. The Pig and fish was opened by Chefs associated with Rick Steins, but after the place closed down it was hard to imagine something opening that could compare. In fact, the Loft restaurant has exceeded expectations so much that it is now Michelin recommended. Continue reading

Of course the automatic assumption that a lot of people make is that the only place to learn to surf in Cornwall should be in Newquay, at the famous Fistral beach. It has to be said that this is down to the reputation of Fistral beach and Newquay more than it is down to what is best for the learning surfer.
